Central Line

An intravenous line that is threaded through the vein until it reaches a position as close as possible to the heart.

***When my son was born he had Patent Ductus Arteriosus and was given a central to treat the PDA.  He was given indomethacin to cause the Ductus to narrow.  Thankfully, his PDA corrected on its own with the help of the medication and did not require surgery.***
