CAT - Computerized Axial Tomography
A computerized x-ray machine that can take pictures of cross
sections of body tissues. Sometimes is used to diagnose bleeding
in the brain or hydrocephalous, an excess of fluid on the brain.
***The day before my son
was released from the hospital he was given a CAT scan to verify the
results of his head ultrasound and show that his hydrocephalous had
gone away. They administered a mild anesthesia while he was
still in the NICU. Then the put him onto a transport bed to take
him to the CAT scan lab. He slept right through the test and
most of the rest of the day while the anesthesia was wearing off.*** |
