Blood Gas

A test to determine oxygen, carbon dioxide, and acid content of a blood sample.

To obtain a blood sample for blood gas analysis a puncture or small incision is made with a lancet or similar device into skin usually on the heel.  As the blood flows freely from the puncture site, the sample is collected in a heparinized glass capillary tube.
