This is the first picture that was taken of Andrew. It was the one that was shown to me in my room while I was in the hospital a few hours after he was born. At the time I didn't realize just how devastating that this picture looks. He has bruising all over his body from birth trauma and also because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and left arm. His eyes were swollen shut and the rest of his body was very swollen also. He had severe fluid retention. |

Knowing what Andrew looks like now helps me understand why the
hospital staff was so scared for him. I was told that he almost
did not make it and can believe that now. |
